So you have a fag packet estimate of restoration costs, possible locations and some vague quotes, but no real plan for what will happen after that.

    I'm out.

    But you got to think

Originally they were up for grabs till january 31st with chance of removal from site in february to which as far as i know nobody came forwards for wanting to restore them to running condition (i think one person just wanted 1663's body to go in his garden and since then im possibly the only person wanting to take them both and fear if i dont they will either be scrapped or burnt/ vandalised before hand then scrapped then lost forever

Yes i run the facebook page
    Sabrina setup the funding page

"The others are worse" is not a reason to put money your way. And the failure to be clear about the most basic points is a reason to give to anything but.

You are telling us that you will need half a million pounds to restore these, and you're wibbling about who's created a page or whether you've got an insurance quote.

I get that there may be uncertainties, but your complete failure to be open and honest about who you are, how you're organising this, or your ability to organise a big project like this, is a complete red flag.

Absolute best case scenario then is if you're successful, you're giving these coaches a stay of execution. Basically paying £10k or whatever to move the scrapping date to some point further in the future.
In itself not an ignoble target, but don't then say you have a plan to restore and run them, because you don't.

Thank you, at least we're now getting somewhere. I don't use Faecebook, so wouldn't be able to see that!
I shall look forward to seeing something a bit more explanatory soon.

Whoops! I should have read the intervening posts before clicking "post reply".

I think I have that 'something more explanatory' now!

Please don't close down this account. The conversation here is so much more entertaining than most of the guff on NatPres.

Going back quite a few years, I had a brief look at those coaches, with a view to giving an ESTIMATED "ball park" cost for restoration.

But haven't you set up new accounts for others, e.g. Paul Hitch?

Only when they have engaged with us and there is a genuine reason to do so. So far no contact has been made (it’s almost as if I’m being ignored  ), which was a simple request to have such a discussion.

With your professional hat on, would the guesstimate that Stuart has mentioned of £150-250k each be reasonable, or miles from reality?

Lol I do wonder if we are going to find out Alf Roberts is on standby incase there is any asbestos for him to put in bin bags ;)

What the conversation does show is how anyone can set up a Go fund me regardless of how realistic or not their plans are. In some ways it’s quite dangerous when you think about it as this situation shows.

I suspect the reality gap is less the estimated cost and more the estimated fundraising potential ...

In fairness to Stuart, at least he's not a convicted kiddy fiddler who's spent time at Her Majesty's pleasure.

IMHO, like most "finger in the air" estimates, a reasonable guess might be to double it and add at least 100K on top - I speak from experience!

More than likely to be Quite a way under ... for an all-in back to running order carried out by experienced staff
Sadly, inflation in both materials and other costs [like wages, electricity etc] is well above what has been seen in the grocery type index !

    Thanks!

Over to you now Stuart - please explain how you are going to raise (let’s say) £3/4m - you’re not going to get that from go fund me.

Having seen what our 1922 Ransomes built bus body restoration is costing on a monthly basis to be done by a professional woodworker/restorer, I think that estimate is well on the low side. This is what £8K of seasoned wood looked like for the project when we picked it up from a yard last year...........

    25-1638.JPG

Having given a couple of largish figures to the GCR RST for the current Barnum restoration in the past few years, I can't say I currently have a high opinion of them at the moment either, given the total "radio silence" as to what is going on with the group/coaches.
Neither their website or FB page have been updated since last September........
