I didn't mean the topic, I meant this kind of incident.

It is reported that there was a failure of the engine telegraph system.

The command to go astern is said to have been rung down from the bridge, but not received in the engine room.

    I await more detail

Here is a video of Waverley mooring at at Porthcawl in a slightly choppy sea. Looks a bit tricky to say the least!

Approach to the quay starts at about 1:10
    Cheers

Excellent bit of paddler handling there by Capt O'Brian. =D>

Porthcawl a horrid approach and berth, hated by those Masters of Bristol Channel pleasure ships old and new - usually always a ground swell running hard on that last little run in to behind the pier. Remember as the paddler rolls the paddles catch the water different to each other which pulls the vessel away from her desired course.

An unfair comment . . . it happens to all ships I can assure you. I manage accident reports for a large port and can assure you contact with berths, piers and jetty's isn't uncommon anywhere. The last passenger ship in the UK to do notable damage whilst berthing was a red funnel car ferry at Southampton Car Ferry Terminal - with 3 voith units making her extremely handy she still did a lot of damage and a large number of passengers received medical attention.

Half a metre off course one way is a miss - the other a disaster!

Lets not be too hard on the old girl (the last railway paddle paddle steamer) and those who run her please. [-X

MCA described it as 12 with very minor injuries - for them to say that they must be pretty minor.

Pictures of considerable repair work in hand at Greenock have appeared on Scotships. Its good to see that no-one is hanging around - but if she's out for Saturday someone will need to be awarding medals!

You haven't seen the photos - with that amount of sheet metal, decking, and spring beam missing - there's no way!

Wavex say Friday - If I was a betting man I would say sometime early next week

I would be VERY surprised if she missed a second weekend. The area internally damaged it pretty basic in terms of fit out, once the steelworks done they should be able to crack on with it night and day!
