Perhaps, but as I could see from the timetable that it wouldn't work for me so I had a full-line return trip on the Railway the previous weekend using the normal timetable, so they did get my money after all!

The problem I have, you see, is that I have to leave my dog home alone when I go out (she just isn't of a suitable temperament to take with me) and the recommendations are that a dog should not be left alone for more than four hours at a time. I can make the four-hour rule fit in the normal course of events-half an hour each way from home to Bridgnorth and back, say two and a half hours return journey on the train, half an hour to get a drink and sandwich from KRM before getting the same service back to BN,will just about fit. I really don't like to leave my dog any longer than this and the Branch Line timetable would have meant a longer break at Kiddy which would have meant extending the day to five hours or more. I appreciate that most people would not have this problem, but there you go.

Impressive - not only do they have double heading but they're also going to be restoring a loco which has been out of traffic for more than a decade to traffic in less than a week! ;)

Does the Buckinghamshire railway centre know your borrowing 7715 and returning it to steam, personally I’d use 7714 as it’s already at the SVR in working order ;)

    No idea.

Its not 4930. It is 13268 as the person who the charter is for has requested.

Was at the SVR yesterday. Believe the Peak failed or was substituted with the train being operated by 20048 instead.

Also 1450 - apparently for steam heat.

A bit ridiculous really - a steam loco has been fired up and used for a day to be dragged around on a relatively mild day where probably half the windows of the train are open anyway because a diesel has an inability to heat the coaching stock itself? Surely there are plenty of operational diesels on the SVR in a position to to this?

I just find it baffling where cost of operation has very much been the emphasis of recent months and years how the steaming costs of a 14xx tank for a day to be dragged around appear completely justifiable.

Not only this but am also aware from recent SVR news notes that BN shed don't look kindly on having steam locos being dragged as part of a consist either. So why on earth is it being done?

As matt says, the peak is the only boiler fitted diesel.
The steam heat season ends on April 30th. The Gresley set is a notoriously cold set and takes a long time to warm up. Using 1450 as a steam heat boiler wont use a huge amount of coal in doing so. It was either drag 1450 around or gas up 7802, pay the EMF another steaming fee. Use more coal in doing so, or cancel the diagram, force all passengers onto S1 which was full all day.

Funnily enough the DMU currently has little to no heating but we dont cancel that or substitute for steam.

just for context the EMF are actively working on 5164 to be restored for SVR use as well as operating both 7802 and 7812 . Steaming fees allow the fund to manage the loco overhauls and keep engines in steam without years out of service waiting in the overhaul queue. Whether it is steam or diesel locomotives they are expensive to maintain and overhaul (and getting more so) and the movement has as yet not found the sweet spot of making sure money is available to invest in overhauls

Doesn't 1450 incur a hire fee if it is steamed and accumulates mileage?

As we understand. It is on a different agreement after a change of ownership.
