Lucky they had another power plant available to keep them heading north. The video at Darlington made it pretty obvious what was doing most of the work then.

Hopefully this can be fixed quickly. The latest Trackside article had an interview with Ian Riley commenting how his fleet are practically on standby until the Jacobite suddenly kicks off at a moment notice, so they can't really agree to any other jobs I assume this refers to RTC work? That he can't sign them up for railtours as they might end up getting pulled to go up to Fort William.

May have misinterpreted the article perhaps but if that's the case Eddystone (with a little help from Clan Line) are the only locos RTC have until Tangmere comes back.

Agree, that is the definition of the old heave ho, if ever it was!!!
Disappointing for those on board obviously.

Edit did well to reduce arrival time delay to 13 minutes.

Looks like Tangmere is getting taken back to York as I type this. I wonder if it's gonna get fixed there or just stabled there for the night before getting moved next week to Carnforth.

67023 and 67027 doing the honours it seems - ECML thunderbirds scrambled from Newark. The various videos of 34067 heading north show a lot of steam escaping round the front, seemingly from the right hand cylinder. Hard to tell with the amount of steam and the wind blowing.

Concerning for anyone booked on up coming steam hauled (?) Northern Belle or the GB. May be a quick fix, followed by rigorous proving of the repair?

Indeed bit of a nightmare for WCR and RTC at a point where they were probably gearing to annouce the locomotives for the Great Britain days.

They annouced awhile which locos were expected to be on it. When I last was on RTC the locos hadn't been assigned to days yet.

Departure from Newcastle looked odd. Engine was blowing off, not a good idea if you’ve injector failure, unless it had just happened and thus couldn’t quieten the boiler down?
But lots of steam from the taps and little/no exhaust beats suggesting front end issues?

    How far away is Heaton?

Piston rings was mentioned elsewhere soon after the failure. There are videos of it leaving Newcastle with only 4 beats rather than 6. Another at York shows it slipping on every wheel revolution while heading back to the NRM with the 67s in tow.

Edit - Facebook video of 34067 at York.

Injector failure quoted on the logs for NR, but seemingly info from inside WCR suggests piston rings maybe the issue. Perhaps both?!

Heaton is two miles from Newcastle station.

It sounded bizarre leaving York with the excursion. It sounded even worse later on leaving York with the thunderbird diesels.
The drain cocks were jammed open on other videos I saw of this trip.

Poor old Tangmere. It's the only unrebuilt that clocks up that many main line miles and so there is little to compare it with. However, its failure rate is not good. It just must be a loco that hides its problems until they emerge big time.

It's definitely the problem child of the WCR fleet. I just hope this issue can be fixed quickly, especially with the GB coming up and Northern Belles steam season fast approaching.

Jammed with fragments of piston or valve ring?

At the moment it appears to be held as the reluctant flagship of the 10A fleet when their major and proven skills arguably lie more with Stanier designs.
Won't happen of course, but it would be interesting to see how it performed if put into the care of SLL.

Indeed, having not travelled with either WC or RTC for some time due to disappointments with "traction issues", we have friends booked for a special birthday on a Northern Belle soon. It is supposed to have a steam loco on the front so it will be a bitter disappointment if it has to be diesel hauled, because the steam element is the major attraction for them.
Hopefully there is time and skill to get 34067 fit again in time.

I do still find it confusing why Tangmere of all the locos in the fleet was given air braking equipment. I know that was so it could pull the Northern Belle but I feel there are better candidates at Carnforth for that in my personal opinion.
