At Barton Loop. Rather sparkling run so far.

That’s a shame. She sounded fine through Lancaster.

Very good run to the bottom of Grayrigg. The brakes then came on to around 48mph, we then accelerated uphill before slowing for the loop.

Load 8 and only seems to be 4 passenger coaches (3x FO, 1x TSO) in total. Plus loco support, genny van, staff support, and kitchen.

This month's not off to a great start. Two locomotive failures and barely into April. Such a shame but things happen sadly.

big end has been the achiles heel of 70000 since her return to the mainline as far back as 1991. 70013 never seemed to have a problem in the same way

Right hand side again as well. Isn't that the same one that caused the problems many, many years ago that meant the loco had to limp out of the way on one cylinder?

Compares well with an anytime return at £297.00. And yes I realise you could risk advances, not something I would do for a railtour though.

Seems to be losing time again strangely, albeit no doubt will save a chunk not being looped at Penrith?

About 68 late arriving, so could have been much worse. More or less going to be an RTC CME-like turnaround time, but then again , it is Carlisle...

I've left my only comment about this trip till after the failure chunter.

This was a brilliant trip to drive from Hampshire to Milton Keynes for. It was also a brilliant run with 70000 until it failed. In 2026 I'll buy that! And yes, it is the second steam failure in a few days but please nobody try and compare the two!!
