There was a post on wnxxforum.co.uk the other day saying some of the well-ventilated Mk2s that moved from Southall to Carnforth the other day were going to be moved across to Hellifield. Good chance it's that.

Confirmed - appear to be now devoid of CDL equipment

That'll be something lovely to look at for Northern Belle passengers during a goods loop stop.

Meanwhile, a couple of hundred miles north, the SRPS's MK1 set was today out to test and train staff on the brand new CDL system - no need for salvaged components, the system works with both air and vacuum braked stock and fitted to 8 vehicles in a matter of months by a mix of staff, contractors and suitably qualified volunteers.

2 further vehicles to follow by June to be back at full 10 coach set (the 8th coach to be added to the set for Saturday's railtour tomorrow).

So buy them, remove the CDL gear and presumably other useful bits, then sell them for scrap?

WCR bought them many years ago. I think most of the demics initially moved to Southall c.2014. Presumably they've always been destined to be spares donors.

Presumably though useful spares have been removed whilst at 10A?
Why then move to Hellifield as an eysore which many of your customers will gaze upon?

I didn't know WCR had storage facilities at Hellifield, I thought they were just allowed access to the yard and sidings etc.

Do wonder why it's just been dumped there, surely could have just left it at Carnforth or if nothing future is planned for them, sell them or scrap them.

I don’t think there’s enough space at Carnforth at the moment. It has been very full for a while.

Presumably further component recovery is envisaged, otherwise scrap them at 10A. Didn't a load of demics go the other way a year or 2 back?

There's a long history of WC at Hellifield. The partially constructed building was intended to be a sub depot but fell foul of a planning permission dispute. Another regulatory conflict ....

If they go inside the shed there, they may not be 'an eyesore'
