In the farthest corners of Wallonia, in the French-speaking area of southern Belgium (the author of Paddington Bear would call it "Darkest Peru"), there is the heritage railway from the junction Mariembourg to the end of the line in Treignes, where there is also one of the largest railway museums and collections of preserved signature steam locomotives in Belgium.

The 14 km long branch line has been a preserved railway since the 1970s and had heritage steam on it since 1975. All operational locos are tank engines.

Overall, this is a destination well worth visiting and for British enthusiasts the Railway Touring Company is running a Continental Trip there to the September steam gala in Mariembourg, as part of a multi-day Benelux tour that also visits autumn steam galas in nearby Germany and the Netherlands.

Here are some impressions from the local 0-8-0 steam loco "Andre Chapelon" from 1953, in service as seen just recently in mid May.
