She passed Oakleigh Park today roughly on time at around 07:40. Sounded great but I managed to overexpose the sky in my photo as I was in the shade.

We watered at Peterborough yard, not Connington- that was on the down run. That was something I've not experienced before. We arrived at the water stop 30 minutes early! The result of some of the most sustained high speed running I've had in many a year. The engine change south bound was in platform one at Doncaster which was a real bonus to get a good look at the loco for the punters. We got held for a while but the resulting running was outstanding. A lot of non-enthusiasts on this and I wonder if this special run back really registered. The down run wasn't bad either, early arrivals both ends. I moaned in the original post about the curtailment of steam on this but after yesterday I'm still grinning. Be good to see some times for Donaster/Peterborough.

I was on the run yesterday - it was my first Main Line steam trip in the UK.

A4 - ECML - York.... what could be better?

I too was very impressed by the sustained high speed that 60019 was producing. Running flat out at 75 - 80 MPH and still blowing off!

As it was my first time I have nothing to compare it to, but I was very impressed and left with a smile on my face.

I was also surprised that no mention or photographs appeared of Friday's trip to Southall,as BITTERN brought with it it's second tender in all it's splendour.

    Now you know...

Glad you enjoyed the trip but 75 - 80 MPH is in no way flat out for an A4 on the bulk of the ECML, blowing off or not. The modest surviving A4 fleet all give the impression that something truly outstanding could be achieved if they were allowed the opportunity, one of them is reportedly only just "coming alive" at 75mph.

Sorry - a bad choice of words by me. I meant that we were going as fast as we were allowed.

I am aware that A4s occasionally went a bit faster than that. :smt002
