Moorbarrow back on duty.

 

More track work at Abergwili as the roads expand out of the three way point.

Just read this months virtual news letter (a newsletter which is all about the railway produced every month) which can be accessed if your join the the Gwili railway preservation society for the bargain sum of £25! It’s worth it for the brilliant news letter alone and I would highly recommend to anyone who loves this beautiful line.

In there is a picture of Bridge 10 and I was wondering if there is any update on this bridge?

Also on Facebook has been a very well received post about the vintage carriages - they seem popular!

Quite agree about the GRPS I've been a member since 1979. You also get an all colour magazine as well.

 

Like many others we cancelled services last week because of the weather. Back open again now, Haulwen is the current service loco with L150 also available after washout and will probably be out later in July. Moorbarrow has been stopped for some repairs and a washout.

Meanwhile at Abergwili the new loading pad is almost finished with final packing and filling to do. After this is completed the team will move on to connecting up road 2 of the carriage shed.

 

Taff 28 has received a makeover back into TVR black.

 

with respect to Bridge 10 this was recently inspected by our usual engineer and we are looking at a scheme to repair the bridge. As ever this will be subject to funding being available.

 

Wow, is it in a repairable state? All sounds great. I will try and support any appeal.

 

the girders are wrought iron and are believed to date from 1860. Options are to repair or replace. Leaning towards the latter at the moment but will have to see.

 

L150 in use this week and next subject to usual caveats.

 

Am I right in remembering that the girders were placed for Broad Gauge and then moved when the line was changed to standard gauge? Also that bridge 11 is stone, bridge 12 aka Conwil South is girder and then bridge 13 aka Conwil north is stone?

 

yes the B10 structure is wrought iron and believed to date from 1860. B11 and 12 and 13 are all stone arch. It is clear doe to the width of the abutments that the beams were originally further apart.

Bridge 10 is stated to be 1m lower in height than B11 and B12 which is believed to be the reason behind the difference in construction (girder v stone arch).
