Seems a good idea to me to familiarise crews with a much larger engine when they've had the same Austerity, and only that, running for years.

Word is that 48624 will be running light engine for crew training on 20th June, in the spare path around the passenger service.

Having watched Alan Taylor's video ( =D> ) I reckon that your painter may have too little time available for the job, along with a wicked sense of humour.
The cabside numbering, certainly on the LHS, was not quite aligned horizontally. You can see the contrast in perspective with the tender's LMS when the loco is reversing back towards the camera. And turning 8F into 8P with a "slip of the brush"? Naughty naughty! Either that's his way of protesting about the passenger livery, or more likely putting up two fingers at the preservation purists.
Whatever, the livery looks just right for hauling that particular rake of coaches. Is that to be 8624's future, or will the society try to get her a mainline ticket and earn some nice hiring and loan charges?

Hot news from Slough film studios! They're going to do a re-make of T-Birds, with TB2 in crimson lake and TB1 in grimy BR black. :smt077

There is neither the intention or money to put 48624 on the mainline.

So don't change the livery then. The loco suits its train.

It may well visit other railways but they may be unwilling to hire it in its present livery.

Why on earth do you need crew training,if you can fire an industrial on a 5 mile line with 5 mark 1's then you can work an injector and keep the fire in on 27ft of grate,,,without blowing off.

It would seem a good idea to familiarise crews with the LMS brake for one thing, a bit different to the Austerity.

Sounded spot on,not a clank, groan or squel, only needed a breath of steam for the run up from matlock.Bootiful!
Think there is still some discussion about the combined vac/steam brake and it's operation though.
Leading firemans side tender axlexbox slightly warm also.

Report from the fireman in the afternoon that he loved every minute of it, once he managed to get the coal through the firehole door :-#

At least he kept hold of the shovel this time (for a while there was a bit of leg pulling about a previous incident)
