Windcutter Wagons

    B279702 = B590067, built Pressed Steel lot 2923, 1957. Rebodied at Horwich, 1973.

    Sold to Rover (Longbridge) in July 1987 and preserved from there in October 1992.

    When did it last run? I have a photo of it in traffic (DSCF3212.JPG (1280×960)), but that was 2008. Same side as above - just shows what the British weather can do!

    Hi Phil
    Thanks for that, we will be renumbering #702 as B590067. It was in regular use up to 2022 I believe as it was FTR and Pad Examined in 2021 and 2022 with the other wagons in the running rake. However it was noted as a "Poor Floor" and so set to one side at Swithland in late 2022 I believe. There is a shunt due at Rothley so it should be closer to the shed for us to begin work.

    One of our next wagons for overhaul is B573403. This came from Leamington in 1995 and had been in use by Transrail (or Transport for London?)? It is interesting as the sides had the usual cut outs halfway up to prevent being overladen when carrying stone or ballast (much more dense than coal). However on this wagon they are lower than usual, also, on the fixed end, the bottom centre section has been cut out ( and later plated up) for some reason....

    Unlikely to have been anywhere near TfL. Transrail were one of the post-privatisation freight companies, that fairly soon after got amalgamated into EWS.
