...or one of those 'entitled' folk who got very up-tight when I refused to let them ride across in front of my car...on the basis that they were trying to go the wrong-way past a No Entry sign :)

I suppose it must be the heat...........I thought this thread is about the West Somerset Railway.

    from WSR r web page
Due to the current weather warning regarding the area experiencing extreme heat over the coming days, we have taken the decision to cancel services from 23rd June – 25th June 2026 inclusive.

Staff & Customer welfare is paramount along with protection of our infrastructure and it is felt the risk in the extreme heats forecast, is too high for us to do this.

The current plan is that services will resume on Saturday 27th June 2026.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

I guess the US Civil War was the wrong way to convince the Southerners of that era (changed from the Germans, and WWII, to avoid falling foul of Godwin's Law) that slavery was wrong; an educational program should have been instituted instead. Although there are those who reckon that the destruction of Sherman's March educated them that they'd chosen a bad path. (Yes, I know I'm being ludicrous.)

I’m in Ireland at the moment, and that seems to be the norm over here!

Sorry for thread drift, but there is a general rule that 15mph on cycle paths is a maximum, whereas cyclist cannot be issued speeding tickets on the highway.

Cyclists can, and have been, charged with the offence of 'riding furiously'

These two sentences contradict each other.

Cyclists riding two abreast are easier to overtake than two cyclists line astern.

It depends on the width of the road.

PS. It's nice to see that so little of contentious railway note is happening on the WSR that thread drift is rife!

Is it too early to ask what colour the bicycles should be?

The cycles were paid for by the owners. It is up to them to paint them in any colour that that wish :) <BJ>

Maybe the Moderators should put an end to this thread drift rather than contribute to it.

As someone has already commented, it says a lot for the management of the railway that there's nothing else to talk about. The prophets of doom were in full voice only a couple of years ago. By now it was supposed to have gone bust!

Given the back story here, "says a lot" could be read in a number of ways. As for success (or otherwise), I note the appeal that was discussed on this thread not so long ago - and is now buried deep within the website, and shows no progress.
