They should be able to slice a few mins off by not dropping the diesel at Wareham, there's a pretty clear path up to Southampton where it all starts to get congested again. I suspect they'll have to stick to "slot", 2 hours late. Thanks for the update, David - back out to see what light is left round Branksome.

 

That was simply stunning one of the best moments of my life ,the sound was simply astonishing better than the duke up there without a doubt! 17mph over the summit! Top work pete roberts, if anyone can pete can!Nowstorming away from dorchester,going to get home post 2am but who gives a damn.

About 1 hour 45 late from weymouth. Now passing hinton admiral.Flattened parkstone bank too.

A Bulleid on load 11 up a 1 in 50 from a standing start is no mean feat, i think your vid will be getting more than a few views Mark.

On the subject of Upwey bank, is having the diesel sat in the sidings at Weymouth not an option instead of banking ?, if the worst did happen and it did stall the diesel could be buffering up at the rear in under 10 mins.

From what I have read here tonight I think that species is now extinct.

Passed Surbiton at 22:35. A train was passing the down slow platform that I was on then Tangmere appeared just after it had gone through. Coupled with the fact the train dispatch guys had gone home meant that I had no idea where it was and when to set up for it! Oh well. As a consolation here was my result at Wandsworth Town this morning:

 

Maths about right - Surbiton figure 67 late so catching up..
Reckon you would have enjoyed the journey.... Especially after that long wait with little or no information at Weymouth followed by the sudden realisation that no, the 73 was not on the end. \/
