    My personal view for many years has been that if each separate group has the same person at the top it is not necessarily the best situation and definitely does not guarantee continuity, and can very much promote the wishes of one person,luckily now we are slowly seeing changes and forgive the pun, a totally different train of thought that ultimately needs to spread throughout the L&B family,id rather see a board room in discussion with different views needing to be hammered out rather than a board room full of nodding donkeys

    If the only possible opportunity to travel behind a recreated Manning-Wardle were to travel to Devon, then that is what people would have to do. Then they would get to visit the recreated L&B, and do that 'adding to the local economy' thing that all railways claim. If, however, one got the notion that sooner or later an itinerant Manning Wardle would turn up at the local narrow gauge line, then one might not bother with Devon at all, and just travel behind Exe2 at some other location.
    The M-W might earn steaming fees, which it seems are not enough to cover the wear and tear incurred, but the host railway would get the earnings and the benefit of offering this 'unique' experience.
    Surely better if the recreated L&B locomotives stayed on the railway whose character the originals helped establish, and the L&B kept its usp of being the L&B.
    However, that being the case, it might be better to proceed slowly on the loco-building and prioritise building more L&B, rather than just WB, for the public to ride on.

    How many devoted manning wardle fans do you think there are?

    And how many of them will come more than once if ticking off MW haulage is their aim?

    I’m not entirely sure what point you are making as there is already one running on a completely different, (more substantial) railway, which is as scenic as the L&B so apart from overhaul periods the MW’s will never be unique to North Devon.

    Equally, when Lyn visited the FR did that have an adverse effect on visitors to the L&.B as everyone had seen it in Wales? I think not.

    What is unique is the L&B using locos and rolling stock on the line that were designed for L&B use originally. The FR or indeed any other railway cannot offer or compete with that.
