Just when you thought loco styling coulden't get any worse than Sheds, GE came up with this "contraption", due for release by Freightliner as class 70 in late 09: http://twitpic.com/9vhyq/full

Was the design brief "something that'll make the 67s look attractive"?

Might be at least the 3rd.
41, D600 Warships & prototype HST Power cars?
43, NBL D800 Warships & production HST power cars.
I thought the class 70 series was for DC electric locos as in the Woodhead electrics (76 & 77) & of course the the 73's.

I had forgotten the 41 being reused!

Class 70s were the 3 Bulleid/Raworth Electrics, though none ever carried a TOPS number.

I'd go for "swampies" because that looks as if it just crawled out of one. Doesn't anybody care about aesthetics any more?

As i understand it was originally meant to be class 68 but this clashed with EMU coach numbers or something and 70 was the next free series after the Mk1 EMU's were withdrawn, i presume this also accounts for the gap in 61-65.

If they spent any money on aesthetic design on that they were ripped off!

Still its one way to frighten kids away from playing on the track!

Look carefully at the shadows on the picture. Seem to be cast in three directions! Could be a Photoshop wind up.
