44806 was still green when it arrived at Steamport Southport, it was repainted black there (but to avoid the cost of replacing the tender BR logo, this was painted around, thus leaving its background green!!)

45491 will not be going mainline. Once her overhaul is complete she is to remain on the GCR and may visit other preserved railways.

Thanks for putting the record straight. Still, we're unlikely to be short of main line Black Fives in the coming years

    Anyone know what's happened to < lostockhallmpd.org.uk > ?

I found it a fascinating website, and miss looking through the various photos which were simply excellent at telling the story of those final few years.

Oh no. Condolences to his friends/family. I did record a selection of the articles included from the website, but the sheer number of photos I did not. I hope these don't fall away, as you say there was some really good stories recorded.

45212 re-wheeled last week- shown on Ian Rileys 'The Works' Forum

Looking forward to its return- hoping it will put in the same level of performance as 44871/45407.

Will make the Jacobite roster equation a bit more complicated next year. Will the K1 be squeezed out by the triumvirate or 2 from 3 be deployed?

Would be nice if the K1 was squeezed out - we need it back at the NYMR and it would be great to have both it and the B1 running there together. Only my personal preference though!

NELPG 50th anniversary in 2016. As long as there is room in Deviation Shed for the loco!

Trackside mag has a piece about 45212 this month. It has been off-leased and returned to its owner due to the business case for another overhaul by the recent custodian not being viable. Includes quotes from Mr Riley himself alongside a much larger feature about the new works.
KWVR has no firm plans for the loco as yet, according to the article.

That's a shame, but perhaps not surprising given the agreement subsequently made between Riley's and the 45163 group. Hopefully the KWVR are able to make alternative arrangements to return 45212 (or another of the "large" locos from their fleet to service). They really need 2 large locos available for events like the beer fest and Christmas trains but currently only have 75078 available.

Hopefully they can find time/money/space to put it through an overhaul- would be a real shame for it to sit out of use indefinitely.

I'd have thought having been under the care of Riley's it ought to be in fair order (whilst requiring an overhaul)- rather than being absolutely knackered.

Of course it will have been properly maintained during the loan but it has also been heavily used, as would be expected to extract the maximum commercial benefit from the contract. Stand to be corrected but I don't believe 5212 actually went back to The Works since it was first outshopped, unlike 5407 and 4871 which both underwent periodic works visits during the same timeframe.
There will no doubt also have been some contractual stipulations about it being returned in a similar state to which it was taken on. I believe the late RS Greenwood drafted the contract.
Perhaps Peter Best will revive his relationship with the loco, the Moors could certainly do with another loco ready for when 5428 and 4806 come out and don't seem equipped to do that from within their own means at present.

Isn't the WD on the way to being overhauled and I thought the 8f had been extracted for assessment not too long ago?

90733 and 5775 are currently being overhauled.

The Jinty was extracted from Oxenhope earlier this year for assessment. The S160 is also been assessed.

But locomotive shortages must be on horizon as either of those two seemingly won't steam anytime soon and 41241 and 78022 will both be out roughly same time in 28 ?

Do you think it will be quicker overhaul 45212 than the others that have already been started? Not sure I agree!

Well, Riley's decided against overhauling 5212 on economic grounds but have committed to restoring 5163 as the "new" third five so that perhaps gives an indication of what relative expense is required to turn 5212 round. Presumably all the main line gubbins, air brake equipment etc have been stripped off 5212 for use on 5163.
