    I have drawings for the side tanks for the 4575 2-6-2 tanks and 72XX 2-8-2 tanks. There is vertical tube in each of the side tanks

    Only in Swindon. Presumably Mr Churchward’s coffin had the handles on the inside too, in keeping with his valve gear?

    Yes, and from experience, it is a damn sight easier to unbolt a 4 bolt flange underneath the tank, unbolt from the clack box and lift the pipe out from the hole through the tank on a western tank than it is to wrestle a 2” feed pipe out from behind the tank/footplate and underneath the tank on a BR 2-6-4 tank… often requiring much more to be dismantled than just the pipe flanges!
    I don’t see why it matters the pipe goes through the tank, surely no one in there right mind would try repairing a burst pipe in situ??

    I can't see where anyone actually criticised the routing of the feed pipe. Or do GWR fans really lack a sense of humour? Certainly the ones I worked with at Bridgnorth had one.

    I would re read a couple of the previous comments then.
    Of course GW fans have a sense of humour, just like any other regions fans, although some need one more than others. I only pointed out the facts as I see them, some may agree, some may not, that’s life.

    That’s a shame, I suppose they are still bitter because GW technology had to be used to improve their great Pacific’s on more than one occasion. ;)
