No, the rails are not being welded up into long lengths of CWR, What we are doing is welding pairs of C60ft rails into pairs so as to produce C120 feet long rails. Therefore half the number of fishplates and so joint maintenance. That follows the practice adopted at K&ESR on the Northiam - Bodiam section of the line in 2000 and which has worked well.

This will also mean that anyone half-asleep whilst listening to the clickety-clack will think the train is going half the speed it really is.
Is that so that you can give the impression of some bucolic 10mph branch line, or so that you can go at 50mph and get away with it?

If you really go to town, you can probably get a complicated 5:4 time signature and reveal all the jazz enthusiasts as the only ones who can keep up...

Im sure Hornby Trains will an electronic device in their range that mimics the correct 60ft rail length click clack wheel noise that we could buy? We could pipe that sound down the train if that would help?

This has no doubt been asked before (sorry, 177 previous pages is a lot to plough in time before the AI/Putin/Trump combo puts an end to us all anyway), but will Junction Road level crossing - being a B road - be gates, barriers/wigwags or gates/wigwags?

Just curious, with the A21 of course having to be the full 21st century bifta, but the two KESR A28 crossings being gated.

I'm assuming Northbridge Street has to be the full barriers/wigwags caboodle as it's so close to the A21 and so the two crossings can be operated in co-ordination?

Following on from that... Junction Road is a fast stretch of road, but in reality it's debatable whether traffic is actually travelling any faster there than on the A28 at Rolvenden LC. So if JR has to be barriers and wigwags, will that set a precedent for pressure to be brought to bear for Rolvenden (and perhaps Northiam) crossings to be upgraded to current standards?

 

All three RVR level crosings will identical. Full barrier, etc, etc. Mike.
