Any guesses on the load the T3 can handle up the 1/49 ? I was thinking 2 or 3 coaches.

 

The teak set was rumoured to be load 4 for the gala.

 

Any idea on the other rakes while we're at it? I'd argue on the moors the difference between load 5 and 7-8 can be as important as what's on the front in terms of entertainment!

 

Two rakes of 7 and one rake of 5 currently in use by the looks of things, plus the 4 teaks. But the timetable requires 5 sets, so I'd guess at three sets of 6 plus 3/4 for the Whitby-Goathland shuttles.

 

Is that with a full or part empty tender ? LOL . It will probably surprise us all. Looking forward to everything as usual, hotel and rover tickets booked.

More road closures for those trying to reach the NYMR;

A170 Sutton Bank in North Yorkshire to shut for essential repairs - BBC News

Sutton Bank will be closed for three weeks while essential safety and maintenance work is carried out, North Yorkshire Council has said.

The steep route, which forms part of the A170, will close for annual maintenance from 07:00 BST 13 September.

It is due to be completed by 19:00 on 4 October.

 

Can anyone tell me what the rake IDs mean?
A, B, TK, W1, W2

I guess TK might be Teak?

W1,W2 -Whitby 1 and 2
A,B -internal mark 1s

Just wondering. Is there any benefit from purchasing my ticket in advance? E.g. avoiding a queue at the ticket office? Do I get a ticket, or a voucher to exchange at the ticket office?

 

Unless something has changed you still need to visit the ticket office to pick up the tickets you've purchased.

As far as I can see today's coach setup is:

TK - 2 teaks
A - 6 Maroon MK1's
B - 4 Mk'1 (3 Maroon and 1 Carmine and Cream) + 2 teaks (Grosmont end)
W1 - 3 Maroon Mk1's
W2 - 6 Carmine and Cream MK1's

Home print-out of pre booked ticket or mobile phone copy of ticket all accepted (but if using mobile phone recommend screen shot simply because there is no mobile signal for the majority of the route). However, if buying a “donation fare” ticket then definitely recommend visiting the ticket office so as to obtain your “thank you voucher” which can then be exchanged at a teashop / gift shop or the onboard buffet.

I had a really good day today riding the rails and supping some, refreshing and nutritious Adul Beverages at Goathland. Timekeeping was pretty good overall and all in all a Good Day, although I have to say that the amount of Ash die back was distressing, as one who loves woodland.

Anyway, back tomorrow for more of the same no doubt.

PS the T9 looked beautiful.
