Italy: San Sebastian Iron Road

In this month's Tutto Treno Tender from Fondazione FS there is an article on the railway, including this track plan. It is not to scale. Out and back from Hoffman to San Sebastiano is 3km. From San Sebastiano to the first passing loop is dual guage in 5/7.25"

Last weekend was the Milan show and the Novegro railway was in full swing. However no steam on public passenger hauling due to new rules.

Meanwhile I have been digging away at the ground at home. Maybe I'll start another thread. Just missing time and money to move forward at a faster rate.

 

Changed some settings in the file and re-saved. Now working as it should.

A double slip here is called an "English Point"

 

I always thought it was single slips that were referred to as "English slips" in Europe, on account of the fact that they were a very common feature of UK railways (because of our loathing for facing points) but comparatively rare abroad?

In Italy single slips are relatively rare.
Milan Central station throat used to have large quantities of double slips, now much reduced but still a significant number.
Since the opening of the direct route under Milan to the airports I don't tend to use Central station much.
Double Slips are known as a Scambio Inglese.

 

Yes, I thought it was the rarity (unlike in Britain) that specifically made continentals refer to them as “English”

Usually yes, hence why double slips are known in Italy (at least in model railway terms) as doppio Inglese - double English.

 

"English" is not always a compliment... so it may be rarity or considering them perfidious pw work

My engine-fixing friend tells me "Engländer" is a (non-complimentary) term for an adjustable spanner in certain German engineering circles...

 

Also in Italy an English Spanner, chiave inglese, is the adjustable one... I used to get a lot of stick on the production line if I asked for a certain size. They used to shout across that the f'''ing English doesn't want an English Spanner but a f'''ing Italian one. The joys of factory life!
