Well while much of the UK sweltered on the hottest day of the current heatwave here is Thursday afternoons Jacobite standing in a very wet Arisaig - no steam ban here:). At 21-22 degrees it was about 15 degrees cooler than some of the hottest parts down south. 20260813_143135 copy.jpg

Journey's end today at Mallaig on a beautiful day in the West Highlands. Added bonus - Ian Riley was in charge of his own loco.

And he gave us a storming run back tender first with no trains to pass after the final week of the afternoon service crossed us at Arisaig. Twenty early back into the Fort

Many thanks Ian (and Chris Birmingham on the shovel)

I think they’ve done some lineside clearance there. Thanks Harry, another one to look at when I’m up there in a few weeks

Well the last week got underway this morning in spectacular conditions and made the 2 day trip worth it. The-Jacobite-18.10.26-Wetlands-mist.jpg The-Jacobite-18.10.26-The-Highlands-in-Autumn.jpg

Thanks Henry. It was only a 2 day trip after nothing in 4 days the previous weekend but the conditions were incredible at times. Looks the same today.

Amazing conditions. Not been up there for many years but scenes like this make me want to make the effort to visit again.

Are they drone shots or did you go up to top of mountain to the left of the road? You are right about the perfect conditions, the only downside was having an unfortunate encounter with a red deer on the way up. Thankfully the car is still drivable.

You do have some amazing encounters up the extension. Many years ago I was sound recording between Beasdale tunnels and a red deer came within touching distance, looked at me and trotted off.

Cheers, got about 10 images in 2 days and can't complain about that! Very different to the previous weekend when it was storms, thunder, lighting and dark enough for the security lights sensitive to light to be on in Mallaig at half 12!

No no mountain climbing this time, although have been up the one you mean in the past. The viaduct view is virtually the same but the wetlands one is different.

I thought it must be a drone. I’ve been two thirds of the way up so didn’t get the viaduct shot. I took advice from Ben Collier on the time it takes forgetting that he’s 30 years younger than me with the agility of a mountain goat!

When I did it it took me about an 45 mins to an hour to get to a view of the wetlands and viaduct from memory but despite being younger than Ben I suspect he got a lot higher and faster than me!

    Anyway, here's another from Saturday.
