Earlier this year I set off from Settle Junction with the aim of walking alongside the S&C all the way to Carlisle (many thanks @ragl for highlighting this on here a few weeks ago). I have done this before, 30 years ago, but this time, with the advances of video technology since then, I thought I'd record it and share it with others who may be interested in my journey. Travelling on the line is great (and I catch the train back at the end of each leg), but I think the best way to see the route and its many structures as fully as possible is to walk it.

The first 4 legs are available on YouTube, taking me as far as Appleby. The episodes are roughly 30 minutes long each, which might sound long, but each day's walking was about 7-8 hours, so they are very much condensed down to the highlights.

Leg 1: Settle Junction to Ribblehead

    Leg 2: Ribblehead to Garsdale

Leg 3: Garsdale to Kirkby Stephen

Leg 4: Kirkby Stephen to Appleby

Have just binge-watched all four legs. Brilliant. Descriptive, scenic, engaging.

Having travelled the line more times than I choose to remember, including when steam was a regular visitor, it is so refreshing to have a different viewpoint of the landmarks that you show us. Massively informative.

Many thanks, Al - that's very kind and much appreciated. It's taken a lot of time to make so I'm glad you're enjoying it so much. There are so many features on the line that you can't see from the train, or include in a shot of a train, which I really enjoyed filming for this.

Leg 5 is now available and sees me passing Long Marton Station, the British Gypsum site at Kirkby Thore, Crowdundle Viaduct and Culgaith Level Crossing, amongst other places en route:
