As far as i am aware the posts will be replica L&BR, so flat topped and i believe an extra hole, I did read somewhere in an L&B book, possibly M&D that 'Fremington sand ' was used but who knows whether that was unloaded at Fremington quay or was dredged from that area of the Taw. Im not sure whether Adrian will mix his own ballast or buy in bags of ballast but theres a good chance it could be crushed granite as there is an abundance of the stuff and its more eco friendly than sea sand

Does anyone know the story of the missing section 16 (all 23 metres of it)? If so, is it something that can talked about or is it hush-hush? With that section the railway in various guises would own everything from Snapper to bridge 24, and only be 8 sections (2.28Km) away from BF... (Of course, there's also the small matter of the viaduct...)

Also, having less salt in it, it's better for concrete longevity too.

I don't know if the angular nature of crushed rock makes a difference in the way it does for ballast, but it's certainly general practice not to use sea-dredged aggregates

As with any section that we do not own yet, it is not a good idea to discuss it on line. Sorry to be unhelpful, but I hope you understand.
