Rapido Trains (UK) recently announced a series of OO gauge Sentinel steam locos, both prewar and postwar designs. The final upright steam locomotive built by Sentinel at Shrewsbury was 9632 which was bought for Walsall gas works in 1957 and delivered in 1958. Not sure when the rail operations at Walsall ceased but it is understood the Sentinel moved to the Midland Railway centre at Butterley. Online suggests an exchange deal between Butterley and the Chasewater Railway saw 9632 moved to the railway in exchange for a Midland Railway royal saloon. 9632 has run at Chasewater and for a while carried fictitious BR black livery and the number 59632.

I went over to the Chasewater museum yesterday to enquire whether anyone had photos of the West Midlands Gas Board logo on the sides of the loco whilst at Walsall. A really helpful chap explained that someone at the railway had an image, or the actual sign from the gates of the gas works, and it is the intention to apply this to the loco when it is completely restored early in 2027.
