Congrats and thanks to all concerned - both the planners and the do-ers!

Another photo shows the final layout to good effect. Next step is complete the short extension to the rear so we can get the 5 x MK1 service set under cover at last.

We have launched an appeal for the Conwil extension. This has been boosted by a significant donation by a generous donor and an offer to match fund pound for pound anything raised through the appeal.

Delighted to be able to be able to offer a small bit of financial support. I was lucky enough to be Nellie's driver on the day we completed the track across Llywfan river bridge, led by the inimitable Paul V. Evans, and so was the first loco driver across the river since the dismantling trains!!!! Good luck to the first across bridge 10.

Good luck! It strikes me that it would definitely be a good idea to say how much you're looking to raise and to offer some kind of benefits tier for donations. And some additional info like what length the extension is and what the plans are for Conwil station. I can only imagine it would encourage more people to donate!

Well worth watching - covers the whole extension between Conwil and Danycoed.

This is the focus of current work- Bridge 10, just off the end of the present line.

The water level shot illustrates how the beams were originally further apart (broad gauge days) and the decking on top is not original.

the beams have been tested but have been deemed to be life expired. They do date from 1860 so probably not a surprising conclusion.

as you can imagine all this work is not cheap so all contributions very welcome. Link to donate above.

Fantastic to see work beginning on extending!

can I ask what the plan is for Danycoed going forwards? Will the loop be removed and the station closed when you reach Conwil?

Is there also going to be propelling for passenger services past bridge 10 when it’s completed? I assume bridge 11 will also need work before trains run? Or will you wait until you get to Conwil to run trains past DYC / Llwyfan?

    Many thanks, and good luck!

    Tom

the track geometry will need to be realigned to allow operations north of Bridge 10 so therefore it’s likely that the line will not open fully until the rails reach Conwil. Danycoed would no longer be required so will be closed. We may retain part of the loop as a siding

Thank you for the photos of Bridge 10 as it is. Hopefully when people see them they will be even more willing to contribute to the costs.

Working on a bit of a distant memory now from when a full survey of those bridges was done, possibly around 2007/8. If I'm correct (and I'm sure Matt will correct me if not) bridges 11 and 12 are stone arch bridges. Bridge 11 has a sagging arch which was noted as needing more investigation and bridge 12 was not too bad. Both need masonry work done on the wing walls where bushes and trees have rooted and dislodged stones (I note the bridge 10 wing wall to the right in the video has decayed significantly from when I last saw it).An idea of the condition of the bridges was given by the surveyor suggesting maximum axle loads for each bridge as they stood then which was something like B12 18 tons, B11 12 tons and B10.. well, suffice to say the inspector declined to suggest any axle load for Bridge 10, despite the additional scaffold!
