GALA ANNOUNCEMENT – Southern Through the Ages

On Saturday 7th and Sunday 8th November 2026, we will be holding a ‘Southern Through the Ages’ Gala!

This event marks a farewell to A1X Terrier 2678 ‘Knowle’ before it is taken out of service pending overhaul.

Service will consist of passenger trains, freight trains and mixed trains running along the K&ESR.

Currently, we can confirm that Terrier 2678 ‘Knowle’, Class 205 DEMU 1118 and Austerity 68032 will be operating over the weekend.

More locomotives to be announced soon, watch this space!

Now hoped that USA tank DS237 will play some part in the gala.

Timetables are out on the event webpage https://kesr.org.uk/southern-through-the-ages/ and the USA tank is fully in action on one of the main sets.

This gala looks fantastic, really glad to see another special event at the KESR. Hadn't expected the first week of November to feature so many appealing special events so put myself down to work before this and the also excellent looking Epping small engines event were publicised, sadly. Will have this weekend more in mind for 2027 planning in case of repeats.

Is anyone able to confirm which way Knowle is facing? Recent photos suggest towards Bodiam, but mention that it was being turned prior to the event for charter post gala. Thanks!
