Apparently two class 58's have been removed of their bogies and are now stored "on bricks"..well sleepers, 58002 / 58017.

with under 20 years service for a class once predicted to have a build number of over 100 examples, with higher speed freighliner versions and an eye to the export market and with an inservice life until 2050...it doesnt look good for the class that sums up thatcherite policy towards nationalised railways.

Still we can enjoy the others remaining overseas !

58002 / 17 have been withdrawn providing parts since 1999/2000 only a few years less than their service life !

It seems to be the most logical move to strip and cannibalise some locos to keep the rest of the fleet running as it were. Considering that spare parts are pretty much hard to come by these days! I would expect these 2 examples to be stored off site at some point to yield other parts such as cabs, body sections, buffers etc

Are these export locos the bright yellow examples I keep seeing coupled inside in the freight that passes through Egham eastbound mid-morning?

I think they get tripped up to Wembley from Eastleigh, then carry on within a freight through the tunnel?
They are yellow with a blue frame. I'm sure I saw a picture of a light blue one somewhere as well.
