After its restoration at Loughborough the Fairburn Tank 42085 has been finally commissioned and was out running today on service trains. I managed a couple of pictures on the single track section approaching Leicester. It looks splendid and is a credit to all those involved.

That's good news! I'll be going past Loughborough tomorrow on my way to Foxfield; I'll pop in.

Is it scheduled for many more of the railway's service trains prior to returning to the L&HR? Will be worth a trip if I know when it's running!

42085 has been rostered to run alongside 8F 48305 this weekend. And will also run on the TPO at the mail by rail gala.

Anyone out there drive/fired a Fairburn tank and a BR 80xxx tank. Which loco did you prefer to be drive/fire on and why?

    Thanks

Ive fired 42085 today, albeit one trip as a trainee and she steamed really well, but unfortunately I havent as yet fired a standard tank to compare the with the Fairburn.

Lovely - the ideal heritage railway loco in my humble opinion - although I'd love to see the Stanier 3 cyl running one day.

Quick question of the GCR members - from Rick's photos (very good, by the way), 42085 is running wrong line - does the GCR operate as single track if passing of trains isn't necessary and how does that work on the signalling?

    Thanks

    Steven

It was indeed running wrong line due to Permanent way engineers trains on the down line with 37255.

We operate Single Line Working with a pilotman when the other line is blocked for engineering work. The signalling is uni-directional.

I did pop in to Loughborough Friday lunchtime, but the engine was dead. It looked a picture though, really good.
