5521 returns to the UK

Steam Railway says it is going to the NRM for a bit before going back to Dean Forrest Railway before being offered for loan to other railways.

 

Is this right?

Saturday 18th July. I know 24081 is going there, but I was surprised to see 5521 listed. I would've thought 4 working steam locos (69621, 65462, 6619 and 1982) would be enough for a two train service, as well as the two diesels on fire risk standby duty.

 

I was suprised to see that too today on the website... during the summer i think NNR tries to have at least 4 steam locos in working condition (expecily for the red service when its steam all day but the two last trains which are diesel) so as one steam loco comes into the sheds for a washout etc theres another ready to go out the next day in its place and vise versa
I dont think Ring Haw isnt really a suitable loco for the high summer season and i believe its currently sulking in the sheds after a couple of months of being a very naughty engine....

I may have to make the effort to get up there soon then.

 

The loco will be staying at NNR till mid September

Hi The loco was running at NNR today, nice loco, sounds good too and when departing stations it didnt hang about either!

 

Thanks for posting the photos. A lovely little loco! I was surprised to read in the loco's history that it was put into store between Feb and May 1951 for some reason. As it also spent much of its GWR and BR (W) life in Devon and Cornwall it is quite a twist of fate that it not only survived via Barry Scrapyard, but went on to travel in Poland and now M&GN Territory too. Quite a CV!

 

That figures. They were always quick off the mark when we had them in South Wales. They were good fun on the ex Barry main line, auto working, so much so that there was usually time for a chat at intermediate stations. When the service was dieselised, with all motored two car units, the timings were not altered but the diesels never seemed to have so much in reserve. Fifty-fives; don't you just love them.

She is definately looking good I will certainly try and make every effort to try and get to the NNR for their gala in september.
