Can't find any mention of the RYTC York to Carlisle series of tours and they start next Sunday (2nd Aug) with 46115 as the motive power.
Followed by 5690 the week after, and then 45231 and final trip by 70013.
Anybody travelling or out for any of these?
    Regards,
    John.

I'm not sure if I'm linesideing Sunday the 2nd yet as I may be off to Wales for the Cambrian for a few days. If the weathers going to be good on the coast I will be off down to sunny Wales on Saturday \:D/

Probably the same set that does the SSE and you can bet that standard will be at the back for the bit you want to be at the front for \:D/
Seriously, if I'm right about the stock and it doesn't get turned or shunted, standard should be at the front from York. However, there is currently a MKII BSO on the first class end as a staff vehicle. I wouldn't rate your chances but it's probably worth asking - nothing to loose...

Depends on the train manager. Got refused permission to use the staff vehicle - not the support coach, that's the other end - on an SSE last year. Different story, different organiser, on 60163's southbound run from Durham in February. I'll be happy to get the northbound climb so if the answer is no for the southbound run then it won't be that big a deal. Was hoping for standard leading from Carlisle as that would have enabled me to join and leave at Leeds, a fair old saving timewise considering where I'll be driving from and also no worries about not getting an open window from the start.

Are there any times for Scots Guardsman running from Carnforth to York? I would guess this will be light engine if they are using the SSE stock.

Last year, IIRC, the SSE stock returned to Carnforth ECS on Thursday night and worked back to York on Sunday morning. I'm not sure whether it returned to Carnforth again on Sunday night, or remained in York ready for Tuesday morning, and of course I don't know whether they will follow the same pattern this year. However, it should become clear this Thursday evening whether the stock remains in York or not.

Captured Scots Guardsman this morning (lunch time) cruising through Garsdale and over Dandry Mire Viaduct. I knew it was downhill but had hoped they'd open her up at least half way over the viaduct for the rise to Ais Gill but not to be.

The pan is a bit jerky - kept getting my feet caught up on the tufts of reeds - and there's blustery wind noise.

Scots Guardsman on the Sunday CME 2 August 2009

Today saw the welcome return of Rebuilt Scot 4-6-0 No 46115 Scots Guardsman to the Settle-Carlisle line for only its third round trip. The weather was fine and mostly sunny and with a clear run through Settle Junction and a dry rail, the climb to Ribblehead varied between 30 and 40 mph all the way, followed by some lively running down to Carlisle. The return journey saw some more bursts of speed between signal checks on the way to Appleby. However, with a clear road up to Ais Gill, the Scot pulled competently but did not manage the speeds up Mallerstang that she had achieved in snowy conditions in February. But an afternoon of sunshine had seen the beautiful Scot looking her best, and giving a good overall performance for the summer Sunday trippers on the 60% full train.

The delay leaving Hellifield was due to a slow water supply so we followed rather than preceded the Carnforth stopper. A workmanlike rather than stunning climb to Blea Moor yesterday although the sprint across the top from leaving Blea Moor tunnel to Ais Gill was very good.
    Sound clip to follow.
