Can anyone tell me how long it is planned to keep 5322 in the ROD livery? I was just wondering as I planned to visit her at WSR in October and wanted to know what colour she will be bearing? :-k

I think it looks awful in this ROD colour! GW green would be much nicer dont you think!

I have to desagree im afraid, this colour repersents the locomotive during the early years of its career in France during WW1, totally correct and factual. The little touches like riffles in the cab are great, the finish is excellent, top job by the lads who restored her. GWR green is by defination a very smart colour scheme, anything that wears this great scheme is top rate in my eye, but 5322 in ROD comes pretty close to that prefection. Maybe in a few years GWR with Great Western on tender.

But for the time being ROD is best.

I think it was the desire to get away from the anonymous (although admittedly nice) GWR Green that led to this livery being applied, given it's fresh less than a couple of years old and the extra publicity it has given 5322, i'd be most suprised if it's changed anytime soon.

Given the recent passing of the last two British resident First World War veterans, I cannot help but feel that 5322 is in the most appropriate livery at the moment.

Thanks for the info. All I wanted to know was what colour she'd b heralding - I think it's quite nice in ROD and rather patriotic considering.

I was just looking at this engine today.

(I had a conference call from work and was on the train to London... my train stopped at Didcot.. I therefore thought.. nice atmosphere, no train noise, chance to wander round the shed so.. why not do the call from the railway centre..)

Looks fabulous, lined up with 3822 in GW black and the pannier next to it.

One thing I did notice wandering the shed today is everything is "GWR" livered no BR logo's here ! - apart from the Autocoach and 5322 ! from a quick peep round the door 7202 is starting to look pretty complete !

i think 5051 is in BR livery and 1363 has the cycing lion crossed out and there may be more examples...(autopcoach is in carmine and gream too (or blood and lowfat instant whip maybe)

Had the pleasure to visit last week....

She will really stand out at the WSR Autumn gala.
Is this her first trip away from Didcot?

Saw on the WSR site that 5322 can't leave Didcot so won't be attending the WSR gala, does that mean she won't be at the SVR gala too? Apologies if this is old news, only just re-registered on the forum so everything from the past couple of months is new to me!

No it won't be going to either of them now, but fortunately the access issue has been sorted out, so it won't be a problem in the future.

Personally as a history student I think that she is far more valuble historically in that livery than in any other. AND as an added bonus it is a welcome change from BR/GWR green or black plus I think it look rather nice too.

5643 has relplaced it at the SVR gala - Although I hope it will will visit one day.

As for the other comments in this thread regarding colour I think Didcot should be congratulated regarding this livery - something that is different yet authentic. For someone who was born well after the end of steam it is interesting to see the livery in the flesh - people should be grateful as if history was different then we could of ended up with desert sand - this would of meant the engine would of worn a nice shade of pink!!! I must admit the negative comments surprise me as usually the same arguements apply to the "it must be in BR livery brigade".

5322 offers a uninque opportunity as many railways hold war weekends however, no one as yet has used the great war as a theme and here we are with a potential star guest yet no one has tried it yet! Think about it, there are other engines available that fit this theme and with the last veterans recently passing the time is of the essence. So which railway will be the first to give it a try?

I think one problem with a WW1 weekend is that the WW1 living history scene is tiny compared with WW2, although I agree with the comments on 5322's livery - i'd go so far to say it's one of the most historically important running engines today

Really glad to see 5643 at the SVR - just sorry that 5322 can't be there as well. A Great War themed weekend would be a great tribute to all those who fought and died - maybe start planning now for 2014..........
