Its not very in keeping with the original look is it?.... I suppose some wont mind, some will hate it....

To me not really, as they never ran with two, so it looks a bit odd!

I'm a Western fan, and I still dont like D1015 Western Champion running with domino blinds rather than the orignal number/letter blinds, just dont look right on a maroon western! when its in blue it wont look to bad as it will represent an authentic domino blind western, 1023 Fuslier...

Double tender, Not one for the originality crew I think.

  3. If it's in bits some will complain that it's not complete.

If it's complete in a museum, some will complain that it's not in steam.

If it's in steam on a preserved line, some will complain that it's not on the main line.

If it's in steam on the main line with two tenders (to make mainline running that much more straightforward in these modern times), some will complain that it looks wrong.

Or that it's LNER and not GWR...

Or that it's steam and not a diesel...

Or that it's carrying the wrong headboard...

Or that it's in slightly the wrong shade of green...

Or that they're not allowed to walk all over the railway to get the perfect photo...

Or that everybody knows that the driver's lunchbox was not that design on 4th February 1965...

The trouble with railway enthusiasts is that there are so many who that like nothing better than to grizzle, gripe, moan, carp, p*ss and whinge. :smt015

It's another A4 on the main line so why worry about how many tenders it's got? 4472 was a common enough sight with two in the 60s and it did a few runs with two after returning from the USA. Looked a bit odd when painted in BR Inter-City blue and grey though.

Well if you don't like the second tender, then I suppose they could always use 6024's water carrier instead......

Why not paint it black with no logo or lettering. Then it won't look like a tender - it will appear to be part of the train rather than part of the loco.

Someone needs to make some self-adhesive vinyls which can be stuck on the side to match the carriages. Judging by recent railtours, they'll need a lot of different liveries :-#

Add more tenders and a few tankers and you get this.

Personally both my Dad and I think it looks positively awful with that second tender but if it keeps the loco on the mainline and improves timings through less water stops then I'm afraid we've just got to put up with it. One question is why couldn't a parcels van or wagon have been modified to carry an internal water tank for Bittern? A modified PMV would have looked better than a second tender.

Just rebuild the original tender to make it twice the size.........thus ends the two tender controversy. :smt082

Yes good point, I just think surely in this day and age some sort of modifications could have been done on a PMV to carry an internal water tank rather than add another tender. I wonder who'll be the first to publish a photo in the media with the second tender Photoshopped out? \:D/ \:D/

Correct, taken on the 2007 RTC, Zambezi Express as we approached Victoria Falls. Spent several fantastic hours on the footplate of the 2nd loco, the coal fired one.

Or don't bother with a tender at all, like on Chuggington ...

Saturday's run was a bit of an experiment. Whilst it enables the loco to go greater distances without stopping for water, it does not avoid pathing stops, two
of which were scheduled on the outward trip. The second tender is also unpopular with tour operators as fully laden it weighs as much as two Mk.1s and their
occupants. Quite of lot of lost ticket revenue.
