60163 Real or Replica?

Yellow stripes denote the safe working area from electrocution. If it is an OHL train then it is below the roof, required safe distance away from OHL and same below for the safe distance from 3rd rail.

 

in my book yellow stripe means "not to work south of Crewe"...hence relevance to Class 86 and Euston

Personally, I have no problem regarding it as 'just' another A1

Look at the J72's - built in several different works, for three diffferent companies, over 50 years. And with minor design changes as well. All J72's, not even a class part. If the A1 is a replica, so is Joem

Train brake systems on locos were always changed as needed - air and vacum brakes have existed in parellel in this country for more than 100 years, for most of the time the majority was vacum, now its air. So what? I believe the B17's had something like 8 different combinations of air, vac and steam brakes in their career.

Given that there are enforced design changes, I do think its better that it is numbered as a new loco rather than pretending to be a replica of a previous A1.

 

It would have to be a new sub-class of replica 86, as it doesn't have a pantograph :-k

Why do you say that? I feel my original question was perfectly reasonable, you seem to be setting yourself up as some kind of authority!

 

Whilst I see no reason for you to make disparaging remarks as to the manner in which I choose to occupy my time.

However I prefer to take a positive approach to life, so I am prepared to give you some suggestions that may assist you and your wife in your current predicament.

1. Register with a local employment agency straight away you may be surprised how much temporary work there is available, many firms now use temps to see what they are getting BEFORE they make a permanent hire and whilst it may not pay the same anything is better than nothing or the dole alone.

2. Contact REC The Recruitment and Employment confederation http://www.rec.uk.com/home and ask for a list of agencies that specialize in finding jobs in the business your wife worked in

3. Prepare a good three page CV remember you are trying to make the reader meet you If you want some help I will assist you free of charge (I am sure we can get a mod to help with an exchange of email addresses) also try the Govt Job Service

4. Speak to as many friends who work in a similar role and ask if their firm is recruiting (Many firms prefer to hire staff who are friends or known to existing employees)

5. Try to keep a positive attitude hard to do but essential and help your wife to keep to a routine as close to her previous daily routine it will help her stay positive and busy.

Beyond any doubt the one thing that can be said of 60163 is that it is an amazing achievement and that is where the matter stands, as far as I am concerned.

 

Taking this further, how about the Stanier 8Fs?

Built at Crewe and Horwich (LMS), Glasgow (North British), Newton-le-Willows (Vulcan Foundry), Manchester (Beyer-Peacock), Swindon (GWR), Eastleigh, Ashford & Brighton (Southern Rly), and Doncaster & Darlington (LNER). Variations of braking systems, lubricators, wheel balance weights, and no doubt other details.

Thus, are only the Crewe and Horwich built ones genuine Stanier 8Fs and the rest 'replicas'? Surely not, they have all been regarded as Stanier 8Fs.
