Had a lovely ride on 5043 on the afternoon run yesturday, pity a signal check curtailed the high speed run from Hatton at Widney Manor but so obvious that Edgcumbe doesn't break sweat on this itinery, nice to meet Kevin, Alastair and a few others of the support crew at Stratford, added my pics at: http://david1984.fotopic.net/c1721668_1.html

Can anyone confirm motive power as 5043 for next Sunday's Shakespeare (09/08)? Yet to get behind this beast and would make a pleasant change from a Hall.

 

I cannot be sure but given that 4936 has now departed TYS for a few weeks on the Valley there are not that many options available other than a Castle \/ \/

 

It's a choice of 3, 2 of which are Castles.

 

What did I miss ? 4965?

Nunney Castle as booked, running a few mins down on the run to Stratford due to a late running preceding service.

 

5029 Seen at Hatton North Junction on the evening run: http://david1984.fotopic.net/p60459865.html forgotten how loud the single chimney version is of late.

 

Thats the usual 'Castle' gallop you can hear.

 

Quite. If you watch Sidmouth's video on you tube, you will hear the exhaust change to four even beats as it passes and then you get the gallop back as it moves away. There is something odd about the acoustics which causes most of them to sound off beat to some extent when working hard.

 

Difference between single and double chimney accoustics maybe ?, Edgcumbe certainly seems to get on with the job in hand with less fuss.

 

Nunney certainly ran well on the return from stratford with plenty of noise.
I spoke to the driver on Snow hill and he said Although nunney is a good engine it has to be worked quite a bit harder than 5043 to get any where near the same performance.... Which would account for the extra noise.
