Certainly later production ones had welded steel fireboxes. I believe the thickness when new of the tubeplate to be 1/2" and the rest of the firebox 3/8". Can anyone confirm, or otherwise, this thinking?

Back in my memory bank I seem to recall being told by a Hunslet chap that the steel boxes fitted originally had thin wrapper and doorplate but this was soon increased by 1/16". Can't remember whether they started at 3/8" or finished at 3/8", though. Certainly never a 1/2" wrapper & doorplate.

    I didn't disagree with that.
