Vile, simply awful. And I thought the 66s were bad. Mind you if they run well the looks of the thing pale into insignificance.

There was some debate about this a while ago, but can't find the original topic. I don't think it was all lost in the forum change. This particular section only runs for 2 pages, what happened to the earlier ones? (prior to August the 4th)

There's a box at the bottom of each subforum page which changes the number and age of threads shown.

Looks slightly (about 0.5%) better than it did before,so that's an improvement then!

  8. Give it 25-odd years, life expiry and there will be a bunch of people frothing about why they should nearly all be preserved...

Has there been an explanation as to why they've used class 70 when classes 61, 62, 63, 64, 65, 68 and 69 are all vacant? Whatever the reason, it's just plain ugly.

I think it is something to do with they are coach/unit No's under TOPS. This was mentioned in the original topic somewhere.

'They' could always be really annoying and name them after 'Britannia's' - same numbering.

I think that could quite reasonably be described as sacrilege...!

Why not just call them BRATS - Big Ruddy American Track Straighteners - as I can't think they will like some of the British turnouts and their response to the BR curves will be interesting to monitor.

Shouldn't be too bad Fred as they will have the same self steering bogies as the class 66 I would imagine!

Does it really matter if their ugly? Its there peformance which will be important rather then how they look.

Acording to Railway Magerzine the nickname 'Preditor' has already been attached tothem cause they 'look like' the alien thing in the movies...

Reminds me of the back end of a certain rather ugly Japanese 4 x 4. Can't remember which one, though.
