The 'UK Heritage Railways Events Page' says that this event will take place on the weekend of 14-15 November, but the railway's own website says that the railway is closed all November. Which is right?

I've told that the Steam Gala in November has been cancelled - can anybody confirm?

I believe that it was cancelled and will now be in Jan/Feb with a big headliner engine.

Thanks for confirming this. Has freed up a weekend for me. Did enjoy the Winter Gala at CVR in February. With the added extra of snow, topped off with the Heritage bus journey home over the moors.

Does the CVR have a date fixed for the Steam Gala next year?

Yes it's good to have clarification and I do agree with you about the Winter Gala this year, but it does leave a worry about the Churnet. The railway has never been one of the more affluent, but I am concerned about its future; railways don't normally cancel their galas or close for an entire month.

Hopefully they will have a successful Santa Season.

    Regards

We are always shut during in november to allow for track, signal, carriage and locomotive maintenance to take place.

The plan now is to have an anything goes weekend which will see 5197, 5199, 37075 and possible the 104 DMU running over the 2 days. I believe these 2 days will be when the steam gala was supposed to be.

This will be the last appearance of an S160 at a gala for while so it is an event not to be missed!

If the plans for next years gala are successful it should be a very good event!

    Regards

    Chris

Sounds like a cracking event; the 'Mixed Traction' theme sounds great.

Is there a date fixed for this yet, do you know?

Sounds like a good one! Experience says Churnet's mixed traction galas are good! Although I'm not normally a fan of "wow, let's double head everything for the hell of it!", I have to admit I won't forget seeing 5197, 37075 and the 104 passing through Cheddleton (all powering) in a hurry! \\:D/

Why worry for a railway that just over 10 years ago was barely nothing but has now grown into a decent sized operation. Having visited with 5199, the trains are generally well patronised and their enthusiast events are getting better and better. Last Winter Gala was definately one of the more enjoyable events I have been.

I'll be there simply to see 5197 off regardless of other locos.

If I come both days can I count myself again? \\:D/

Let's just hope the organisers know their market and give 5197 plenty of turns!

Completely and utterly bonkers......and fantastic! A cracking lineup and a true 'anything goes' event.....I retract my previous statement although 5197 is still 90% of the reason i'm attending.
