Grr. I was on the sleeper to Fort Bill on Tuesday morning and passed it at Tulloch. If I'd known it was running I would've bailed out at Corrour and got a shot. Or at least leaned out of the right side of the train at Tulloch to see it!

Great photos - thanks for sharing! Presumably Warner Brothers are far more 'laid back' about security during filming now. I seem to remember in the past that the general public were to kept away at all costs and everything was done in secret as far as possible.

On a different tack, there was a story in one of the railway mags a while ago about WB building a Harry Potter theme park in the USA complete with a full size railway including a replica of 'Hogwarts Castle'/ Olton Hall. Has anything more been heard about it - I read something in a non railway periodical recently about the theme park opening next year, I think.

Yes great coverage Jack. The side of filming you don't often see!

With the films coming to end it makes me wonder if 5972 will be kept in her Hogwarts guise for much longer. Once the final film has been released interest in HP might fade away after a few years. Will we see 5972 returned to BR livery again? Just a thought.......

The value of the livery will remain for a long time after the last film. Repeats on TV and a whole new generation of kids reading the back catalogue will keep the brand fresh for years. Look at Thomas - new cartoon on the way!

Hard to understand why WCRC or tour operators don't use this loco more... Joe Public would love it!

Probably because the owners of the rights to Harry Potter merchandising etc are not interested in the comparatively small amount of profit that this would bring in, and WCRC cannot use it without their permission.

So is the the line simply shut for filming, or do runs have to be fitted around service trains?

I wonder if the author herself "nipped" up to see filming - Rannoch isn't the nearest station to her Scottish house but she does live "just along the road"!

Shows Warner Bros still are happy to spend plenty on making the films - shooting new footage for each one.

Seem to recall a Harry Potter running out of London in the Summer. Probably full of Amercans, but set a precedent...

I don't think it's that they CANT use it, more than it commands a huge hire fee, certainly Toddington managed to get it in full Harry Potter garb earlier in the year, others have got round this by running it minus headboard and with Olton Hall plates.

Blackpool Wakes Special in August ran with Hogwarts Railways rolling stock. My kids nearly killed to secure a compartment when it rolled into the station... they won! So using the name may not be a problem. Huge hire fee divided between 400 - 500 punters? A premium most parents would pay.

I've just registered to point out that it was me that trudged miles over the moor in the rain to take those photos, not Jack.

    Regards,
