We are having our first ever narrow gauge gala at Toddington on 19 and 20 September. Up to five locos in steam. Visit our website www.toddington-narrow-gauge.co.uk for further information.

    Gala update

Four of the five advertised steam locos are now on site, they are JUSTINE, 1091, GERTRUDE and STATFOLD. TAFFY arrives tomorrow. The website has further information showing the timetabled workings.

Sorry for the belated reply; I popped up on the Sunday, and had a really enjoyable time! It was a wonderfully sunny afternoon, and a pleasant atmosphere prevailed throughout the event. Lots of passengers from Toddington 'mainline' seemed interested; whilst the additional workings of the 'Elegant Excursions' set gave the day a gala feel.

'Gertrude' looks stunning. On the doubleheader on Sunday, Taffy sounded pretty spectacular ascending the gradient, dragging the train and Gertrude!

Why were the resident locos only given freight turns though - and only one trip a day at that? Seemed a real waste, especially for those (like myself) who travelled far for the event. What was that all about?

Still, its only constructive criticism. Really enjoyed the event - it must cost an arm and a leg, to bring in visitors. Will it happen again next year, do you reckon? Hope so!
