Mr Peppercorn was a good friend of Mr Bulleid, so methinks he won't mind too much. As for 60163, its been following me around a bit of late, so I'm not too fussed on hanging around Carlisle Citadel when there's a decent pint in the offing. As for Mr Stanier's best attempt at a steam locomotive ;), well there can be too much of a good thing in one day (especially when it only takes two minutes to get a decent photograph)! And as Mr Collett is also represented when 5043 arrives at Crewe from Preston, that leaves only Messrs. Bulleid and Maunsell wanting, so that's where I come in!

I have spoken to RTC today and asked about numbers of passengers that are travelling with us. A few names I don't know are booked to travel and also they have to go into the notes on each individual booking to see who is travelling with us as well if I didn't have a specific name :smt101
Those people who PM'd me to be included are now part of the group. I think it will be 12+ altogether.

See you all on the 10th, Neil.

5043 is no longer going to Preston according to the VT site but is now heading to Watford on the 10th. Who on earth wants to go to Watford?

In that case, I hope there's a GWR enthusiast on the trip. We can't have these LMS, LNER and Southern chaps taking all the cheese ;) (myself included)!

Well if there are any Swindon acolytes on the trip at least they'll get to see what Swindon could have produced if they hadn't slavishly followed Churchward as infinitum.

All joking aside, the Princess Coronation Class was arguably the ultimate development of the Swindon 4-cylinder express passenger design.

If only Swindon persevered with a Cartazzi truck. It would be interesting to see how the GWR could have developed a standardised Pacific design from 'The Great Bear'. I suspect lots of brass, copper and cylinders! I also wonder if the GWR would have benefitted from embracing the Pacific concept? They seemed to do a decent job with the 4-6-0, so maybe a larger firebox necessitating an extra axle was superfluous for the purposes of the GW main line. We'll have to make do with the closest thing we have to a GWR Pacific when we charge up Shap...

    Hi All

Unfortunately I have had to drop out of this trip.

My company has sent me to Asia, and requested I stay until Mid October, before going to Africa until November.

RTC has generously transferred me to the Cotton Mill trip in January with 46115...

I am also on the SLS special with the Panniers in November/

so hopefully I will see some of you there !

Have a good time and don't drink too much !

Sorry about that, but unfortunately in my case it's the banks that pay my bills and so they have to come first.

    A Tornado on our tail!

I have just been checking times on UK steam info for this Saturdays run over the S&C with Tornado and noticed that next weekend on the 10th that Tornado has been rerouted to return over Shap from Carlisle. It should be interesting to compare times on the day for the return runs. I am also curious to know which way Tornado will be routed? Straight down to Warrington and Crewe as they are listed as pick up points?
There is nothing on the Pathfinder site yet.

    Neil.

I would expect it would be routed straight down the West Coaat Mainline on the return.

But where with Tornado come off ? ( It was due to do Hellifield to Carlise and Return). Carnforth or Preston ?(It is a DBS operation and not West Coast).

If that's not an incentive for our crew to show what a Stanier Pacific is made of.

I will be surprised if the tickets come before the middle of next week, or if, judging by what people have said about other tours, at all, due to the postal strikes.

The best thing would be just to stand on the train, and tell an attendant with a list who you are. It should be fine if you're down on the roster.
