It seems that Tyseley has been concentrating on 5043 of late to the exclusion of 4965. Anybody got any news on when and if we can expect to see 4965 back on the main line again?

In the latest Railway Magazine 4965 has been pencilled in for testing in November.

The answer to your question is no we haven't forgotten 4965, in fact we have been busy giving her a ten year overhaul.

She has been given a 10 year repair.

Saltydog will know more but I saw her boiler outside the workshops in August (from the mainline)- it is I hear successfully tested and when I saw it had fittings on (looked ready to return to the frames).

The engine actually worked only c.10,000 miles since restoration, never went on a low loader and never failed on the main line.

As a consequence Tys will hopefully have her turned round and ready for the Open Day on 25th Oct. She is quoted as being in steam as "Albert Hall".

    http://www.tyseleylocoworks.co.uk/tlw101_2/

That will see her turned round within a year and not long after the wonderful Earl of Mount Edgcumbe was finished. I dont think it has been forgotten about.

Lovely engine I hope it is repainted as prestine as 5043 and am sure will continue to do great service through on the Shakespeare on summer sundays. Warwickshire knows few finer sites.

I know the guys at Tyseley have been working flat out on her overhaul and she should easily be ready for the October gala.

I'm told that the figure is actually closer to 26,000 miles, both other facts correct.

The TYS open day is the Sunday after next! Is it possible to complete a 10 year over"hall" in a little over 3 months? (She was complete and un-touched for the early summer open day.)

If you look at how long it takes everyone else to do 10 year overhauls, this would be quite a feat! Even if she has very low miles, surely there are certain tasks that have to be completed. I understand the boiler MUST come out of the frames for the 10-year.

We shall see in a weeks time if she is in steam!

Yes you will have to wait and see but do not doubt the resolve of the Tys team

For someone so new your posts contain a tone which is verging on Trolling

The boiler has been out of the Frames but I think the point is TYS have kept 4965 in such good condition actually little work is required compared to many overhauls. In BR days a loco would have done several times 26k miles before going to shops.

I Have often questioned Tyseley's decission to run her as Rood Ashton Hall when her alter-ego "Albert Hall" is one of the best known buildings in the UK.
I would of thought there would be some commercial advantages there, even though she only ran for a few years with that name.

She is a lovely locomotive, whatever she is called.

Why wait until November. Thought you all might like to know that it just got back from passing its main line loaded trial run at 21.15 hrs!

Maybe I'm unwittingly falling for a joke here, but Saltydog-are you being serious? Tyseley are absolute machines... That's a crazily quick overhaul. And the loco must have been kept in incredible condition during it's last ticket to make that possible. Good work chaps!

Salty is correct. The light engine run and the loaded test both took place today.

No it isn't a joke. I've just done a 13 hour day getting her ready and then going with her on her loaded test run.
One of the reasons for such a quick turn around is that when any small job crops up it is attended to immediately and not left until it is absolutely necessary to do it.
But the main reason for the quick turn around is the dedication and expertise of Tyseleys young engineers, they deserve all the plaudits for this.

Top job people - that must compare well, timewise, with a Swindon job (Given that they would have had a boiler ready to go)?

Fine example of how the care taken during the original restoration and subsequent management of the loco has paid off. An example to all.

That's amazing, great job to all involved in the overhaul and 13 hour days like today. It's inspirational, congrats...
