The last time I saw two there, they left the stock of one train in the platform whilst the loco turned, watered and coaled. The 2nd set was moved as described by Ralph above.

Bit of a waste of time today.Another late change (ordered yesterday) has a diesel on the back all day for heating.Very very dissapointing. At least the premier customers will be warm and that is whear the money is.

Don't understand that view ! ? ! I assume the diesel is not doing any pushing and hopefully its the same colour as the coaches ?? So the engine still has the challenge up the hill

You can never be sure that the diesel isn't pushing unless you are in the cab of the thing looking at the controls. There are also problems with the performance of the steam when the diesel is lit up.The diesel,on a certain setting, can take its own weight and effect the output figures of the steam.Just to difficult to even try to produce a log.
As far as I am concerned it is a waste of money going on a train which has a diesel in it.
RTC and West Coast should try and get a generator for the winter season.Either that or get the steam heat back on the relavent coaching stock. The steam heating was O.K. on the West Highlander last week which apart from the banker out of Queen Street to Cowlairs was diesel free.

    You ain't seen nothing yet...

Just got home after a fabulous day out. 6233 performed faultlessly as did everyone concerned.
We were a few minutes late leaving Crewe due to what seemed to be a bit of delay allowing 6233 onto the train, but it was of little consequence as we then headed for Winsford on the slow. Two Pendos/Voyagers went past before we slowed for Winsford but being behind time meant we did not have to stop, and from there on Bill had the regulator open and we were soon into the 70s. Water was taken at Carnforth then the work really began, there were 13 coaches plus the 47 amounting to, as I was told, a good 630 tons. Grayrigg was taken fairly steadly then alomg the Lune Valley speed built up and we passed Tebay in the 70s. By Scout Green 6233 was really digging in and at the Summit my GPS said 37, others ranged from 36 to 38. Whatever the exact speed this was certainly a record in preservation for a train of that weight.
Speed down to Carlisle was again in the 70s and we arrived in good time.
For anyone with any doubts, when questioned at Carlisle, the driver of the 47 assured us that at no time did he provide any assistance.
The beer festival called and we were soon ensconced sampling the offerings. Someone mentioned that Tornado was due but strangely there was no stampede to get out, in fact I don't think anyone bothered???
A sparkling return run was only marred by having to come to a stand at Weaver Junction to allow a Liverpoll train to run infront of us. We were early so perhaps that was to be expected. Nevertheless Bill again let rip and the spectators on Acton Bridge and Hartford were treated to a Duchess barking out of the darkness. Definitely going faster that last time... Well done all concerned, a brilliant run...
    Video later.
