    Hi Dave

According to the latest Railway Magazine, 9017 is supposed to be staying in BR black now until the end of it's boiler ticket in 3 years time, is there any credance to that report?

    Cheers

Don't know exactly what the plan is but with only 3 years left on its ticket, if left in black the money and labour saved can be used on something else. Plenty to do to get ready for next year.

    Regards,

    Dave G.

Why bad joke? When that mainline connection is open, the Bluebell really won't be able avoid "paraffin cans" or "diseasels".
Unless the conditions dictate top & tail steam locos or a 70' turntable is built.

You just say NO. Actually it would be interesting to know just how many mainline specials do use the existing connections that heritage railways have. Not many I suspect and most of those will be to the WSR because it's at the seaside. Most customers for mainline specials are the non-enthusiast public not folk like NP members. I think the mainline connection at EG will not be used much, but the passenger exchange with the Southern will be invaluable.

Nobody on the Bluebell has yet mentioned any plans or even an aspiration to have a turntable.

    Regards

Sadly the Bluebell did once have a turntable, but it was sold on, and they also once had aspirations for a semi roundhouse to store out of ticket locos, although I think that was more a dream than anything else.

When did the Bluebell have a turntable and where? Be interesting to see where it could be put now? I think a Turntabel would be good on the Bluebell!!....

The parts sat in the field at HK for years. It was never installed but sold on.

Funny enough in the last Bluebell News Magazine someone wrote a letter about the line installing a Turntable and said it would be a good crowd puller like the one at Minehead. I think it would be great to have one.

The connection could also be used to bring in guests for galas.
The WSR, Swanage, KWVR, ELR, NYMR all use their connections to bring in guests and have very successful diesel galas. Maybe the BB may do that as well.

Does anyone know who the turntable was sold on to? Where would a turntable be likely to be installed?

If they didnt develop the site outside of sharpthorne tunnel (yes, that it what it is called, it is in sharpthorne not west hoathly!) there might be room where they keep all that ballast a rail parts for the extension.
