An extra carriage - in what soever form must have been an advantage seeing so many passengers were traveling and I cant think of anything better at the back than the beavertail

No, it's a different one - 381 on the MHR, 380 is the ex-GCR one. 380 was owned by RVP but as they are primarily focussing on TPOs and Gresley stock these days it didn't really fit in and was sold on. It was only ever externally restored at the GCR - the inside was a mess!

I'd just like to echo all the good things said about this gala. Last year's October gala was an excellent event but this one seems to have even topped that. Well done to all at the GCR for your time and effort. I had a great day on the Saturday and my photos are now on my fotopic site with a few showing some of the shed and footplate crews. Are you amongst them?

    Cheers,

    Paul

I wasn't there but can only imagine the saloon was for a pre-booked group on a specific train and they simply left it on the set all day/weekend to save shunting. The saloons will tend to be on the south end to ensure that they're actually in the platform at Loughborough - not having corridor connections, the saloons would be useless off the platform at the north end of a long train...

Photos from Friday and Saturday. Note to self - when going to a night shoot, remember to bring the plate that connects the camera to the tripod....! Doh!

    Night shoot

    Hi 5944,
After looking through your Photos I seem to remember talking to a guy in the field just outside Quorn as it was getting dark! It must have been you as you have more or less the same shot of the fairburn as me!
Pity you forgot the bit for your tripod for the night shoot. Mind you the results you got are pritty good considering the lack of light and the weather!
I got some nice long exposures while there. http://rickeborallphotography.fotopic,net/
Look at fridays shots to see them!
Looks like that will be the last time the GCR have the night shoot. Due to some inconsiderate remarks on the gcr yahoo chat group this week. In my view the guy should have kept his remarks to himself!

    Hi All

I have not read the comments, but it is a shame to hear that this could have been possibly the last night shoot due to one persons attitude. Depending on how long you stayed there, the main shed lighting was switched on after a request by a photographer to a footplate member starting up Lamiel for the following day as he walked past. This gave the remaining photters a greater help for taking pictures before the night ended. The railway did state that no lighting was to be provided, so anything extra was going to be a bonus to be honest, so i dont know what the person in question had to complain about.

I have finally managed to upload my pictures of the night, so feel free to have a look.

  13. I have removed my postings within this thread and would like to apologise to the Great Central Railway crews and staff and allso the representives of the Keighley and worth valley railway, I am not qualified to comment in the way that i did and should not of made such a inflammatory sweeping statement that was without foundation. I am deeply sorry for any offence caused and i have learnt from my mistake and shall keep thoughts such as these to myself in future and not brandish them around on the Internet.
    Yours sincerely

Could anyone elaborate ?, i think there will be a lynch mob out for him if true, decent night shots outside charters are hard to come by and if we have lost the GCR due to one selfish berk then god help him.

I have read what i believe to be the comments and know the individual concerned. It isn't my place to reproduces them on this forum. I could see his point of view although I don't think he'd appreciated from the railways perspective

However I will say this from my own experience . Night shoots are notoriously difficult to arrange and manage especially in a relatively tight space with large numbers of people all after their own version of the "one" shot . Add into the mix those who wish to do long time exposures versus those who only have flash to play with and the recipe can be well .......... challenging

On a gala the crews have had a long day and need to get the engines disposed and prepped for the next day , quite often again further getting in the photographers way who almost certainly have wondered into their way.

The only way to do it is with some proper floods and orchestrated set ups which need ... yes more crew. CVR did it one gala with Jason Cross provising the lighting which worked well or go with a proper charter . Yes it costs a bit more but at least the odds of you getting that image are significantly increased

I tried to find '24p' mode in my HG10's manual but couldn't. I'd be grateful if you could please could you explain the difference between 24p and whatever you where using before.

Will be 25p if you have UK Pal version, I had the US NTSC version, I say had as I have sold it and just ordered an HG21 Pal version.

Anyway, How , go to the second page on the menu and you I think it second down the speed option, you should find 50,30,25 on the UK version or 60,30,24 on the US. Secondly on the main function menu change to cinima mode, I think it goes, P (standard), T,A for apture and the the Cinimode.

Great, now I understand thanks ... yes I can find 25p Cinema mode.

I have my camera set to the standard 'Program AE' mode and the HXP 15mbps quality. Canon say, are rather imply, that 'Cinema mode' is better than 'Program AE', 'Aperture' or 'Shutter Priority'. Is this your experience and would you recommend that Canon users change?

    Regards
