Can anyone recommend decent spots for video between Carlisle & Hexham?
    Thanks in advance.

After Doncaster on the outward i assume this goes via Hare Park Jn and then Turners Lane Jn (Wakefield) before going across Engine Shed Jn at Leeds?

Obviously with the diesel at the front.....
    Cheers,

You ideally need to be west of brampton, gradients are falling generally from their on.

However, you could get a good shot at brampton itself, with the signal box, and crossing in shot.

Dont know what the "tree situation" is like at the moment, been a while since i played golf at brampton, google earth may give you a few clues.

You could always try and get a alongside "travelling" shot from the A69, where the line runs alongside, at the bottom of the bank, where you turn off to the military road (may be greenhead bank), also got a speed camera on it by the way heading east.

well if I'd wanted a picture of a yard choca with carriages, with the double chimney, steam dome and cab top peeping over the top.... thats all that could be seen. its green so it must be Scots Guardsman! what more do you need.

Well everyone, if today's forecast is anything to go by, we can expect a day of horrible high winds and frontal rain followed by beefy showers... that's not taking into account the additional effects that the Pennines have on the weather... and it's all nice and calm around Ribblehead now and should be on sunday too. Murphy's Law for you...

46115 did very well today in testing conditions, with a heavy 12 coach load. She stormed the Long Drag in some style. The climb out of Carlisle to Brampton tested the loco severely, to the extent that she stalled 2 miles shy of Brampton Fell. Hand-sanding of the rail got underway by the support crew before 46115 limped away. The enginemanship to get her going again was exceptional! 35 down through Brampton as a result, but didn't see any trains close behind her thankfully. Video to follow.

Wondered about the delay, as I was on the 17:05 ex Carlisle HST, which departed at 17:38 after being held due to "a broken down steam train in the Brampton area", still managed to beat it to Durham, as it stormed through at 19:32, great loco.

Not only that, but the run up the East Coast main line from Low Fell to York had some sparkling highlights, showing that LMS power has nothing to learn from its hosts about high speed running. An excellent day out.

    More tomorrow, with some pictures.

Anyone know how the DBS 67-hauled charter got on with the climb around Brampton? Sorry I don't know the name of the train as it was not listed on www.railtourinfo.co.uk. A coal train stalled earlier too - delays all round at Carlisle!

The 67s for UKRailtours, 16:05 ex-Carlisle, went via Newcastle to York and then via ECML

Hi Will. I saw the 67s at at the same location as I saw 46115 later on, and they didn't seem to be having any difficulty with the climb.

67024/008 in top and tail mode worked 16:05 1Z14 Carlisle to Kings Cross.

The 13:20 NXEC Hst (43300/311) was held at Carlisle until 13:52, I wonder if this was because of the coal train that had come to grief (66067 on 6Z82 New Cumnock to Tyne Yard, left after 12:30 unit to Newcastle about 12:40ish).

An interesting day in "them there hills".

RHTT Train not doing it's job properly would be a more accurate description as NR & WCRC seemed to agree it was an acceptable load in normal conditions.

I'd seen the Railhead Treatment Train heading towards Carlisle earlier too; I presume it had gone both ways over the route.

My video showing 46115 storming Helwith Bridge and restarting near Brampton now available at:

That was really good, you deserve a medal for shooting at Helwith Bridge in that weather.

    The restart was interesting too.
