A photo charter ran at the Great Central Railway on 22nd October with Fairburn tank 42085 which will be returning to the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway soon. A rubbish day weather-wise but some good banter with some good company and a handsome engine made it a good day.
My efforts in the murk can be seen at my fotopic site.
Thanks to Matt Allen for displaying his organisational prowess.

    Cheers,

    Paul

Like Paul said, a crap day for photos (1 shot in sun - when 42085 was reversing the stock!), but a good laugh. A real shame about the weather, 42085 looked superb on the 4 blood and custard Mark 1s in the morning. The crews did well too. It was worth doing just to listen to it on some of the run pasts. Well done Matt for organising it. Hopefully some sun next time please!

Hi Guys, I hope you all had a good day. It was a real shame about the weather but things got even worse when I realised my flask was empty :(

Special thanks must go to Matt for organising the group so well, this being my first photo charter guards turn, it seemed to go fairly well apart from the aforementioned lack of tea, and lack of a decent stove in the guard's van! :p

Hope to see some of you back again soon....

    Cheers

    Ben

What were you burning in that stove? It stunk out the other brake van!

Hi Ben, thanks for your good work on Thursday. The guards are often the unsung heroes of photo charters, so well done and thanks for your time and effort.

    Regards,

    Hi Chaps,

Thanks for all the positive comments about the charter it was a fun day even if the sun didn't quite appear.

The guys at the GCR was superb, I know it was Bens (the guard) first charter and he did good, we can be a picky bunch sometimes! I was also very grateful to have Jon Bowers helping me on the day.

We where also blessed with a great bunch of guys on the charter including some Nat Pressers which is always good to see.

I've attached a few pics below, lets hope we get better weather next time round.

It's nice to know that you can publish photographs of Swithland's Down Main Starter without their being digitally altered to show a signal arm. Hurumble !

Such edits are beyond my skill, but I do know a man that can!

Any edits I do are the bare minimum, I believe a photograph should be catching a moment in time and not a creation of what you wished it looked like. However, that's a whole different debate and each to his own!

I'm surprised to learn that your contributer wished to see a lower quadrant signal fitted with an upper quadrant arm, no lamp, no lenses and no downrod. Why on earth would anyone want to pretend that Swithland had a Stop signal on the Down Main fixed at danger ?

Depending on whether you spot that it's an edit, it makes either the railway or the image editor look rather silly.

Everyones entitled to their opinion and edits is not an argument I'm going into!

One day we might see signals on it for real. In fact one of the charter participants commented on how great Swithland will look when the signals are up, it'll transform the scene.

I believe Mr Drop_Shunt is referring to a recently published book. Don't have it myself and if the published photographs have been messed about with that badly and to that extent I probably shan't bother. So, a sale lost. Clever, that.

Is the book referred to the one in PhotoMatt's signature?

Indeed he is, trying to be subtle I think.

You won't find any of my pics that have been "messed around with" as you put it.

You may find some that have been lightened/darkened/sharpened, possibly the odd orange jacket removed.

My pics account for 3/4's of the book.
