4277 will be out this weekend.

Goodrington sidings is nearly finished, the signalling and track work is nearly complete. Legalities are still being sorted on the Carrige shed itself though. Which is why it hasn't been started yet.

Leaving for work on Weds and heard the 25 working reasonably hard, then it came out of the trees onto Broadsands viaduct with some flat wagons and 7827 on the back. I thought it wasn't good to tow GWR locos 'cold' due to lack of lubrication? or was she in light steam (didn't look like it) Or is Paign-Chur short enough not to worry?

Stu, your quite right GWR engine's should never be towed vast distances dead becuase the Hydrostatic Sight Feed Lubricator won't be working, thus meaning the valves and piston's will not be getting any lubrication in the bores.

However in this instance, the Connecting Rod's and Valve rods were removed on 7827 before she was towed to Churston.

Paignton to Churston would be more than far enough to do some serious damage to the bores, even at lower speeds. She would have been driven up, but we are planning to remove the wheel's for turning, so it was quicker and cheaper to remove the rods than steam her and then have to drop the water again before putting her up on the Matterson Jacks.

Thanks for the info. I didn't notice the missing con-rods, as her wheels were behind the ridges of house roofs from where I was standing!

    Just Back!

Just returned home from a sunny/rainy/sunny/rainy couple of days down at Paignton. Big pat on the back to all at the P&DSR for another enjoyable trip and fantastic views lineside. I was travelling on the 12.15 out of Paignton on Wednesday behind the 42xx and I dont think I have ever been pulled up Goodrington bank so fast with so much noise! Fantastic! Anyhow, I've tried to attach a couple of pics of my visit which I hope will come out as planned.

    Thanks to all. Rob.

No worries Rooster. Blimey, I haven't been behind the Manor for about 20yrs!! I used to have my family hols in Brixham end of August up to about the age of 11. My grandad and I would always grab a couple of journeys - special times for me. I had a return trip with "Goliath" 2 yrs ago which was first after some 15 odd yrs too! It was like being re-unioted with an old friend lol.

Any plans to focus on GWR175 on the P&DSR next year? How about turning the Heritage weekend into a mini-gala? Visiting locos?. You set a precedent (albeit accidentally!) last year with 5029. What about city of Truro or 6024, 5029. They could arrive by means of railtours? Need to work out the ££££s of course!

Cheers Scorpian and Stu for the video link. I certainly don't remember her being that loud! Looks like I'll have to arrange a break down to the West Country when the Manor is working next year.

Well, if you need a place to stay, that video was taken from our current place, which is soon to become a self-catering holiday let (from July onwards 2010)
Let me know if you are interested...

I dont know if anyone else has noticed but some of the pictures PDSR in the timetable and website still show "Ajax" any plans to update this for next season.

Is 4277 still on duty for the final week of the season

Actually I noticed that about the website a few weeks ago shes also still listed in the locos section, but is obviously no longer "Ajax" or on the PDSR and has been a while since.

Hopefully though she may now tour a bit more often and revisit the SDR again as she did in april
