I am hoping to get down the MHR one day next week as I have some holiday (3 days Mon-Wed) booked. Just wondered what loco's are likely to be in use as I wanted to get some "Autumn shots".

No I don't have one set up. I do have quite a lot of pictures on the MHR websites (Old and New) though and have had them in the Mags RM and HR in the past.

Last weekend 34007 & 92212 were on duty. But on Sunday afternoon 5224 had a warming fire in it.

This maybe some use to anyone interested in what’s running on the Santa Specials. 92212 will be working on the Alton services .

Actually that is another snag with the new MHR website. Tony Wood made it so that you knew everything that was going on and made it feel very friendly and not posh, distant and 'proffesional' as Time Beere makes it.

I never know what it going on down there, and neither does Tim Beere when he answers the Alresford phone. I think that appointing him as marketing manager was a backward step for the railway.

So what exactly IS happening at MHR with regard to locos, I mean, it was my understanding that 5224 would be undergoing overhaul as soon as poss, so does that mean there are 6 locos available for service? in which case well done MHR, and why is Ivor the engine at Ropley?

So could be out of those three I guess. I hope 5224 is in use as she is/was the only loco facing out of Alresford or has she been turned to face out of Alton?

Also has anyone seen that odd letter on the MHR site about 850 needing an overhaul?

34007, why did you not follow the link and read the letter before posting this question?

I saw the letter and assumed it must be somebody who doesnt have a clue what they are on about.

Which is the conclusion most people reading the letter would reach. Hence my comment as to why anyone would ask a further question without following the link and reading the letter.

BTW I think the Mid Hants were somewhat unwise as to post the letter on their website in this form bearing in mind it could start speculation. I am sure it would not have happened under the old webmaster.

It would have been posted, but with a comment from the webmaster which would have clarified the situation and prevented any speculation.

I also thought it was unwise to put that letter on there without some sort of clarification of the situation which would have happened on the old site.

Anyway I came down with my Dad yesterday afternoon once the sun had decided to come out and after we had seen 35028 on a VSOE in the morning. I was surprised and pleased to see 5224 in action alongside 34007. Only managed a few shots (still on the camera) but it was worth coming down just to see and listen to 5224 on the 15.00 departure from Alresford. We parked in a lay by on Bowers Grove lane about midway between Ropley and Medstead. We could hear 5224 pounding up the grade from Ropley Station and she hammered past us. We then listened to her pounding most of the way up the bank to Medstead. What a superb sound she made! My Dad is a SR man and even he was impressed. I hope this excellent loco stays on the MHR for a while after she has had her overhaul. Thanks to the crew for a brilliant display yesterday.

Here a few of the pictures from yesterday as promised. They have lost their sharpness though where I have resized them. I hope to get down on Saturday too as the Autumn tints were superb when the sun actually shone.

Thanks for the info Green Five - am going on Saturday and looking forward to a ride behind 5224 now. Am also strangely looking forward to taking a look at the bats at Ropley, fascinating creatures!

Can't be sure 5224 will be in service this weekend but hopefully she will be. Could be 92212 instead or 60019.
