You have obviously also had the "experience." "Interesting" is definitely as in the Confucian sense.

I too have heard about the N2's problems and witnessed it's stopping on Erdington on Tuesday.

Perhaps JTX we have now met, but not knowingly.

My pictures of the N2 and A1 are at http://www.chappers.fotopic.net/c1775460.html

Addenedum: Just found Matts shot - very nice, makes me fell like giveing up.

Yes, mate, that was me. Two of the engine's more amusing little quirks were occasionally blowing 22" in the train pipe when your back was turned, then being unable to blow more than 19.5" Then you have 16 very well-adjusted bogies fighting you as well as the train's own 275 tons. As a vacuum man yourself, I'm sure you get the picture.
The second was that it would often over-create to 24" in its own reservoir, which then applied its own brakes, adding to the fun.

Your GM was with me on the Wednesday when the fireman's side piston packing blew out spectacularly in Arley Cutting, northbound. We made it to Bridgnorth but came back on the cushions. Definitely an "interesting" day.

Had another visit on Saturday, found the nice shot leaving Highley which was a pleasant surprise. Really good to see the trains packed again, it seems getting Tornado in for Half Term was a very shrewd move...well done SVR.
