Here are 35 shots of the second morning of the tour, starring 61994 The Great Marquess working over the Glasgow - Fort William line for which it was specially designed by Gresley.

I never thought I would travel over the West Highland behind a K4!

Yes you're quite correct, I meant former Glasgow & Garnkirk of course! I think I got over excited about the sight & sound of steam and forgot to engage brain! Thanks for pointing out my error.

Thanks Ian, you've answered my question - and raised another. I'll have to find out about the Glasgow and Grankirk now!

    Final West Highlander photoplug

My two last collections covering this tour are now online.

34 photos of the afternoon trip on 26 September from Fort William to Mallaig and back behind 62005 Lord of the Isles are here:

    http://andrewstransport.fotopic.net/c1764975.html

And 18 photos of the last day are here. The train was worked from Fort William to Cadder yard, north east of Glasgow, by 61994 The Great Marquess. Then 5690 Leander took over for the final leg as far as Carnforth, where 47760 took over for the last 30 miles to Preston.

    I hope you like them

Well, it has taken me even longer than IanF, but I have just posted a short video on YouTube of The West Highlander. The shots are:

Fri 25th, 5690 Leander, Lancaster station.
Sat 26th: 61994 The Great Marquess, County March; K1 62005 Glen Finnan.
    Sun 27th: 5690 Leander, Crawford.

These are taken from a DVD that I have produced, Steam Age Pictures Vol 30. It's about 1 hour 15 minutes long and costs just £10, including P&P. I'll update my own web site with more details in the next day or two.

I recall being told that Oban was off limits to loco hauled because of a weak bridge - anyone have any facts???

I believe that work has been done, or will be done before the tour, to make the Oban line available again to loco-hauled trains
